Western Australia: The 2010 Federal election is an important opportunity for all sides of politics to outline their vision for the Nation, and how they will address the issues that threaten the future growth of this State.
The State’s peak business organisation, CCI, looks forward to taking part in a mature, constructive and forward looking debate about what is needed to make Australia a better place in which to work, live and do business.
The next Australian Government must demonstrate that it understands the many unique challenges that WA, and local employers, face and that they are willing to work with the business community to address them.
With many businesses yet to fully recover from the global economic slowdown, there remains a need for further economic reforms that will help to keep the economy strong for years to come.
During the campaign, CCI will be launching a “Strategies for Growth” paper which will list the priority issues faced by WA employers, and what the next government needs to do to address them.
Business needs a more competitive tax system that encourages growth, investment and job creation.
Business needs to know how the issue of labour shortages will be tackled.
Employers need a flexible and fair industrial relations system.
WA deserves a greater share of infrastructure funding in recognition of its role as a key driver of the National economy, and to support new investment and attract more workers to WA.
